I am going to run the Philadelphia Marathon this November. Anyone who knew me in high school is sort of chuckling at this idea because you know that I was never really a long distance runner. But this is the plan. I first have to send a shout out to one of my inspirations, my friend Tina, who successfully rocked out the San Diego marathon this past June. Her awesome attitude and success played a big role in helping my make the leap to run this marathon.
For those of you who do not know, I lost two of my sisters to Cystic Fibrosis when I was younger. Both loses were devastating to me and my family as we all had high hopes that they would live to see a cure. On July 8th, 2007 I became the oldest living daughter. The day, and the emotions both leading up to it and what I actually felt that day, were tremendously bittersweet. I was torn. Should I mourn their loss at such a young age or should I celebrate the gift of life I have been given and be as productive as possible. I sort of did both. Despite that I had already begun training week previous, I ran my first 5 miles that will culminate in 26.2 on November 18th.
While there is much more of the story to be told, I will leave this as my introduction. So for now...it's 116 days until I race against CF.
